Thetford born & schooled, Terry is passionate about Thetford and has family links to the area stretching back many generations. He is involved in numerous local groups including being the Chairman of the Charles Burrell Centre Board, a Trustee of the Thetford Community Association and was elected to Thetford Town Council aged 22 in 2008. Terry was elected Mayor of Thetford for the 2016/17 Mayoral year and he is believed to be the youngest Mayor of Thetford in its more than 800 years of a Mayoralty. Terry also serves on Breckland District Council and Norfolk County Council. He is an avid social media user with an online blog – www.jermysjournal.blogspot.com and on Twitter via @CllrTerryJermy
Terry was approached by the previous owners of the About Thetford magazine in 2014 and asked if he wished to take over the business so that they could retire. Despite being particularly busy already he agreed to the new challenge as he wanted to see the magazine continue and develop further as it is such an important resource locally. Terry convinced his brother and sister to join him and establish a new Ltd Company (In and About Thetford Ltd) which purchased the publishing rights to the magazine.
Terry produced the first magazine under the new ownership in November 2014 and has served as Editor since that time. During this time the magazine has grown and developed further with 12,500 magazines now printed every month and the delivery area extended to include more of the rural area surrounding Thetford. There have been new features added and he is always thinking creatively with each issue.
Billie has been working with the magazine since January 2019 and loves how each day is different and fast paced. Her parents live in Thetford and when she visited from Hampshire (she moved to Thetford in 2014) she would always look for the About Thetford Magazine to see what was happening in the area.
Previously she has worked abroad in Italy and the USA, as an holistic therapist and lecturer, as a retail manager, in direct access hostels and even as a tea and coffee taster for a well known drinks brand!
Creative writing was always something Billie enjoyed at school so working for the magazine and being able to report on or review an event and interview local people for Thetford Faces is an absolute pleasure.
Alongside her work with About Thetford, Billie is also a trustee for Thetford and District Dementia Support Group, a manager for the amputee charity Steel Bones and is an active member of the Rotary@CBC group. It’s fair to say she is a busy lady as she is also the secretary for a school PTA group and also runs a Women’s Business Networking group: Empower Business Networking – Thetford.
Empower meets once a month and is not only about business networking but helping working mums and other lone workers feel less isolated. There is usually a guest speaker and members also get to showcase their products or services. There is of course tea and coffee on offer as well as lots of laughter.
TADDS has been going since 2013 and offers support to local people living with or caring for someone with Dementia in its many forms. The club meets on a Friday morning and Billie volunteers-helping organise the events and activities as well as serving lunch and helping with clear up.
Billie loves to forge new connections throughout the community and local business world and is enjoying looking after contributors and advertisers alike for the magazine.
The About Thetford magazine is an independent community magazine covering the town of Thetford and it’s surrounding villages
